Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) was one of the greatest Russian composers. This prelude, with its rich harmonies, is an expression of his ability to convey powerful moods.

For those of you who want to learn to play this piece, the chords and fingering in measures 1-12 can be modified so that most often both hands will play the same chord.
