On June 22th 1944 Michael Wittman (*1914) had received the Swords (to the Oak Leaves of the Knight's Cross) and was promoted SS-Hauptsturmfuehrer (captain) because of his performance at Villers Bocage. He rejected Adolf Hitler's offer to become an instructor and rejoined his unit.
